Subclass 494 Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) Visa

The 494 skilled employer sponsored visa will replace the 187 (RSMS) visa on 16 November 2019.

A total of 9,000 places will be allocated to the 494 visa program every year. The 494 visa does not grant immediate permanent residency, like the 187 RSMS visa, but a 494 visa holder may be eligible for the 191 skilled regional permanent residency visa in the future.

SC 494 SKILLED EMPLOYER SPONSORED (REGIONAL)

There are three streams under SC 494:

Employer Sponsored Stream:

This visa enables regional employers to Sponsor Skilled workers in the identified labour shortages within their region. Applicant have to live and work only in designated area and becomes eligible to apply for PR after 3 years.

Eligibility Criteria:

The visa validity period is 5 years. Conditions will be imposed which will enforce the government’s intentions that visa holders live, work and study only in regional and only in the nominated position. Visa holders must commence work within 90 days of the visa being granted and must only work in your nominated occupation and only work for the nominating employer in regional Australia.

Subsequent Entrant

This visa is for members of the family unit of a Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (SESR) (Provisional) visa (subclass 494) holder who are applying separately for their SESR visa and wish to join the primary SESR visa holder in Australia.

Labour Agreement Stream

This visa is for skilled workers nominated by employers who have a labour agreement. Labour agreements are developed between the Australian Government (represented by the Department) and employers.
